Jardin des Douars – A Luxury Stay in Morocco
By Gina Baksa
Just as the summer crowds disappear, September, October and November are the perfect months for crowd-free breaks in Essaouira on Morocco‘s west coast. Essaouira has around 320 days of sunshine per year and this small city is home to great surf beaches, a UNESCO-listed medina, and a working fishing port, meaning visitors have plenty to explore.
The charm of Essaouira is that it has not been taken over by tourism. Add to that the many days of sunshine in this coastal city, as well as the tremendous creativity and cultural activities available, and it’s easy to see why Essaouira is such a tempting exotic hideaway.
The luxury hotel Le Jardin des Douars is nestled in the heart of the Essaouira hills, sheltered from the winds and isolated from any noise pollution, ensuring a relaxing, tranquil stay. The hotel’s lush botanical garden setting further adds to the attraction. There are just 28 bedrooms in total, along with three luxury villas. The hotel’s facilities include two outdoor heated pools, two restaurants, a couples-only restaurant, a hammam (a form of Turkish bath), a spa, and a shuttle service.
It’s also a great base from which to explore the surrounding area. Take the 12-minute shuttle from Le Jardin des Douars and:
- Enjoy lunch on the beach, sunbathe, surf, kite surf, windsurf, or ride a quad bike
- Or how about a camel ride or quad bike adventure?
- Explore the fascinating Medina, visit art galleries, people watch in the bars and cafes, and practise your bartering skills.
- You can also tee-off at the Gary Player-designed Mogador Golf Club.
And when you’re done exploring, head back to Le Jardin des Douars, the perfect backdrop for relaxation with its extensive hammam and spa treatments using local, organic Argan oil.
